Do You Have Better Food?

A Deeper Hunger

About a year ago when I was doing Seattle outreach, a gentleman was going through our food line and asked me a direct question.

“Do you have better food?”

While he was asking the question, I thought to myself, “we have some pretty good food options.” So, at first, I was a little confused.

I politely asked him what he was looking for and he told me, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Being a believer, I identified what he was saying right away. Jesus said that in Matthew 4:4.

I felt a little jab to my heart when he said that, and that stuck with me throughout the day. I just kept dwelling on those words and thinking about it.

I realized that people wanted more than food; they wanted something much more important – they wanted hope. He understood that hope was in the word of God, and I knew that as well.

The Bible Says: Romans 15:13

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” This statement is so powerful and true. Since that day, I started to self-reflect. I knew that I had to make a decision; was I going to share my faith or omit it? It’s a fearful feeling to try to share your faith because there are so many reasons not to; fear of rejection or fear of offending someone.

But my God is not a God of fear.

The Bible Says: 1 John 4:18 “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” Do I fear rejection more than giving someone words of hope and eternal life in Jesus?
